The Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga eventually has to end his first season of playing football in NFL jersey early with injury. Breaking his left ankle in the win over the Kansas City Chiefs, he was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, four days before the team’s season finale against the New York Jets.
The Bengals also promoted rookie tight end Darius Hill from practice squad. As an undrafted player from Ball State, Hill signed with the Bengals in May and had been on the practice squad since Sept. 6 after playing in all four preseason games for the Bengals.
Hills spot on the practice squad was taken by another rookie, tight end Carson Butler, who signed with Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent from Michigan but was waived. After playing in all four preseason games for the Detroit Lions, Butler was waived again and joined the practice squad of the San Francisco 49ers, but he stayed there for only one week.
